Hello and welcome to my little nook on the internet! I am Evi (she/her) and I love mathematics and teaching.
I am a Lecturer in Mathematics Education at the UCL Institute of Education. Outside of work, I find joy in knitting, sewing, and painting – each with varying levels of success but always with a zest for creating something unique and developing new skills along the way.

Research & Teaching Activities
My teaching and research activities are intertwined – they feed into each other, growing and evolving together. My key aim is to challenge risk-averse teaching practices and stereotypes in Mathematics Education.
My research focuses on mathematical discourses, with a particular interest in how communication unfolds in mathematics classrooms. Teaching has sharpened my awareness of discursive practices and how teachers and learners discuss ideas that go beyond the mathematics of the moment (i.e., beyond the curriculum). I am also interested in how mathematics discourses transform into disciplinary discourses during the transition to university.
Since November 2023, I serve as the events secretary for the sigma Network for Excellence in Mathematics and Statistics Support in Higher Education – a national community that promotes inclusive, evidence-informed practice and fosters collaboration among those supporting mathematical learning across the sector.
During my postgraduate studies, I made a deliberate choice to work in mathematics student support, ensuring that I remained grounded in practice. I also gained valuable experiences teaching research methods in education and mathematics education modules.
In the past, I worked in an advisory and collaborative capacity with colleagues across disciplines at the University of Bath to enhance teaching, create resources, and advise students from undergraduate to doctoral level. The teaching collaborations opened avenues for engaging in practice-based research projects exploring and evaluating novel approaches of facilitating learning. Alongside this, I taught A-level Further Mathematics, which kept me closely connected to classroom practice. These experiences broadened my perspective on mathematics education and continue to inform my work.
